After Colonel James Fannin and his men were defeated, they were taken to Golaid by General Jose de Urrea. The defeated Texas army was told that they were to be released by Urrea.

The Holy Day

The troops were marched to Goliad on Palm Sunday, a holy day. Because of this, the troops under Colonel Fannin had no idea what fate awaited them.

When Fannin and his troops arrived at Golaid, they were forced to line up. One by one they were killed. While their friends were killed, many soliders escaped or tried to. This is arguably the saddest thing that happened in the Texas Revolution, along with the Alamo.
